Something a little more mature,
I actually had a reprint of the graphic novel for this before the movie came out, or as the movie came out, if I recall correctly.
Akira was really America’s first bigtime introduction to the post-apocolyptic insanity that had been going in portions of Japan, and we loved it. It’s not Anime’ it’s Japanimation at it’s absolute best. All cell animation, and I think it was more than a little stunning visualy, if only for it’s mind numbing complexity in each image.

I should add, that it looks like the entire movie is available on youtube, in 12 parts, this is just the first one.
