UPDATE: CUBS WIN!!! NL CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPS!!!

Back to the Windy City for the weekend. The Cubs will clinch — hopefully. And, I’ll be there. Unfortunately, they won’t. They are finishing the season on the road. Still, it should be fun to hang out and have a few dozen beers in Wrigleyville during the games. Clark & Addison will be crazy when they wrap it up. I was there in 2003, 1998 and 1989. It would be amazing if they could make a run at it this year and avoid the 100 year hype that we’re going to hear all next year.
Then I’m off to St. Louis for a few days of business type stuff and then, who knows — maybe back to Chicago for a playoff game or three.
Oh, and I gots to get me an Italian Beef sammich.

However a great many people will be doing so now because bill wirtz is dead.
I don’t think most hoped for his death, however, I think most hockey fan’s came to the realizition that the hawks would not be able to get the local recognition they deserved, until bill either sold the team (unlikely) or until he died.
It’s a shame he died, however, his death is probably one of the best things to happen to chicago hockey.
It was DISGRACEFULL how he restricted the team, and ‘hawks fans learned to hate him, so most every Chicago hockey fan cheered his death.
It’s a shame that he was that STUPID! that noone could see him as a human but as nothing more than an “uncle moneybags” prick in the way he managed the business of the ‘Hawks.
It’s a shame he’s dead, but honestly? For hockey fans? thank god he is, he was a horrible horrible owner, without a doubt the worst owner in all sports.
Rest well bill, but nothing that follows has anything to do with you.
be at peace, but also, be alone, the ‘hawks most definately will not be your legacy, seeing as how you went out of your way to destroy them.
OUT.

Weird.
O.J. Simpson Questioned About Casino Break-In
O.J. Simpson was questioned Thursday night in connection with a break-in and theft involving sports memorabilia at a hotel room at the Palace Station casino in Las Vegas, police said.
Simpson allegedly broke into a room at the casino late Thursday night in connection with a burglary, TMZ.com reported, citing police sources.
Simpson was questioned and released and is believed to be in Las Vegas, police spokesman Jose Montoya told the Associated Press. Montoya said an investigation is ongoing.
“We don’t believe he’s going anywhere,” he said.
Eyewitnesses say that O.J. and a bunch of his goons entered a room and took back sports memorabilia that had previously been confiscated for money owed.
It would be truly bizarre if he ends up going to jail for this.

Falcons are gonna wait until the NFL investigation is complete, though originaly they were gonna suspend Vick for 4 weeks as a pre-liminary. The Commish said don’t do anything till they complete an internal investigation.
I don’t argue with that, It has to wait till it goes to trial to make that decision, but If he can’t make camp, or games because of his legal problems, he should be dumped, but he won’t, not until the trial, which is also hard to argue with.
I think it’s impossible to conclude that he didn’t at least play a part in dog torture for the gladiatorial amusement of himself and his friends, but It should go to court before he is universaly hated. I don’t care about the verdict, but if the evidence makes me change my mind about him, I might not spit on his image every time I see him.
Other than that, I’m presuming guiltyish, which is my right, I’m not on the jury.

It’s that time of year again. When the Cubs venture down to that mini-mall of a stadium that the White Sux call home.
So far Zambrano is on fire, striking out seven of the first nine batters. Cubs up 2-0 in the 4th.

Hawk Harrelson is such an idiot.

I don’t know if this is true, but according to the game it is.
I don’t know when or if I will wake up tomorrow, but I will likely be covered in my own feces.

The starting line up did fantastic, no runs or hits scored, and the Bullpen, which has been disappointing followed through just as everyone has been hoping for the last several weeks and months of failure.
They kept their opponent from scoring a single run, and their offense did just as was expected.
Drawback? The White Sox didn’t play today, and even though there wasn’t a game, this was probably the best game I’ve seen/not seen in more than a week.
It’s an average day for a chicago team right now (except for the fact that the cubs are on a 3 game winning streak!, and the Sox are sucking crap)
The point is? THANK YOU White Sox for having today off, it’s the only day this week that I haven’t experienced dissappointment thanks to your failures.

That has absolutely GOT to suck! Bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, and it’s a shot between second and first, losing the no hitter. I blame ESPN for mentioning it so much, and pre-empting PTI.
YOU DON’T TALK ABOUT THE STREAK!
YOU DON’T MENTION THE NO HITTER!
Blasphemers!
Update: His june 2nd post, shows why I think this guy rocks.
Let’s see, I sucked, we still won. That about cover it?
That takes some nuts, specially for a first round hall of famer.
But it doesn’t end there.
Seriously, I did suck
Now he is probably the only guarantee’d first balloter on his team right now, but he says that? Thats a Man who knows. But it’s not over.
He’s swinging the bat as well as I have ever seen him.
He’s talking about Posada, the opponent, he isn’t saying HE screwed up, he’s praising his opponent, THATS nobility.
OH! WAIT!!!! IT continues.
I was fortunate enough to start the fifth with a clean slate whereas Mike had to com e back out to 2nd and third no outs. We get two out of it and are now up 3-1.
I will leave it there, read his blog.
I bet tomorrows posting will be the best yet.
A good man, even though I hate the whole “SAWKS” “YANKEETHS” thing, I chi, but Curt is a good man, and is honest.

Apparently Ashley Judd’s husband Franchetti, whoever that is, won the Indianapolis 500 after 166 laps, the race was called because of rain.
My question, The Indy 500 is called the “Indy 500″ because it is a 500 mile race over 200 laps on a 2.5 mile track.
So. . . . do the spectators get re-imbursed for the 85 miles they didn’t get to view? Or are they gonna call this years race, the Indianapolise 415? I’m just curious.
I hate the “sport” of any driving race, though I appreciate the skill, I think it’s boring, I can wind up my vibrating football game and play out every season but I don’t, cuz I like football. Just saying.
To restate the outcome, some guy who gets to sleep with Ashley Judd (who was very cute in a sodden summer dress) wins the Indianapolis 415.
Edit: I screwed up, (go figure) 34 laps is 85 miles, not 90, and the Indy 500 didn’t become the Indianapolis 410, but rather the Indianapolis 415.

The Duke lacrosse team returned in style.

Duke downs UVA for ACC lax crown
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Matt Danowski and his fellow seniors had helped Duke win 40 games in their careers and reach the NCAA championship game in 2005.
This year, they can add another impressive — and more significant — accomplishment to their resumes.
Danowski and Zack Greer each scored three goals Sunday and the Duke lacrosse program continued its triumphant return by beating Virginia 12-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship.
Danowski was the tournament’s most valuable player for the top-seeded Blue Devils (13-2), who won their fourth title and first since 2002.
It’s the latest on-field highlight for the Blue Devils in the road back from a rape scandal that led to charges against three former teammates — who were ultimately exonerated — and the cancellation of much of last season. Duke has won eight straight games heading into next weekend’s regular-season finale against Air Force, followed by a trip to the NCAA tournament in hopes of winning the title that eluded the Blue Devils in ‘05.
“For us as seniors, we talked about leaving a legacy here,” said Danowski, honored as the ACC player of the year earlier this week. “It’s another testament to the character of the guys on this team and the way we’ve stuck (together) throughout this whole thing, kept our noses clean and just kept going and stayed with it.
“Today’s one of those payoffs. But you can’t fall back on that. It’s not the end-all, be-all for us.”
Good for them.

I actually check this blog everyday (I’m a baseball fan) and sometimes I read it, he’s a bit verbose(imagine Ace writing an advance review of “Dragonslayer” after a special D&D blogger only preview of the movie sort of verbose) but it took ALLAH (CURSED ALLAH ALWAYS WINS!) to point it out to me today.
Anyways, Curt Schilling is a ballsy, honest and decent man.
I won’t belittle the night or the event because on a personal and a team level it was an incredible experience. I never took sole credit nor deserved it for us winning that game, or the series. Without Marks home run or Bronson and Keith doing what they did out of the pen we don’t win that game. Without Derek dealing in game seven, Johnny going deep twice, David’s home run and a host of other people we don’t win the series. What came out of that series from a public perception standpoint was not how we all felt. Was I proud of what I did? Absolutely, but I also never thought for a second that was the sole reason we won.
He praised his team above himself, he acknoweledged many of the accomplishments of his fellow players, and he is one of the great pitchers of all time, no selfishness no ego, only a desire to set the record straight.
Curt Schilling is a good man, I’m impressed, If I didn’t think the AL East was stacked against pretty much everyone because of the silly conflict between the Red Sox and the Yankee’s I might actually be a fan of the Red Sox just cuz this post was impressive. Not as a pitcher, but as a person.
