100 hours of hypocrisy

Posted by mesablue on January 16, 2007

Nancy (Big Tuna) Pelosi promised that her congress would set their agenda in it’s first 100 hours.

She also promised a leadership free from corruption, we instantly saw an impeached judge and a yet to be indicted creep who stashed $90,000.00 in federal bribe money in his fridge up for committee chairmanships.

One of the points in Big Tuna’s 100 hours agenda was to raise the minimum wage. Well, they pushed it through — except for one thing:

Pelosi slipped a loophole into the legislation that would exempt American Samoa. Every state and territory in the United States would have to increase their minimum wage except for American Samoa.

Now, why would she do that?

Could it be because Del Monte which owns StarKist Tuna and employs more 5,000 Samoans, almost 75 percent of the island’s work force, is in Pelosi’s district?

January 13, 2007 — WASHINGTON – Red-faced House Speaker Nancy Pelosi went into damage-control mode yesterday after Republicans charged she slipped a loophole into the Democrats’ just-passed minimum-wage bill to benefit a company in her San Francisco district.

The legislation hiking the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour covered the entire United States and all its territories – except for one: American Samoa.

The GOP said Samoa was exempted because Democrat Pelosi is protecting the food giant Del Monte Corp., which is based in her district. Del Monte owns StarKist Tuna, which employs more 5,000 Samoans, almost 75 percent of the island’s work force.

The company had opposed the legislation, which passed Wednesday. The legislation increases the minimum wage from $5.15 an hour.

This is what you voted for America.

The first time your new Speaker exercises the power of her position, it is in a highly unethical manner. I’m not suprised at all. Pelosi is probably surprised and apalled that she is being called on this.

How are you going to feel when they go after the tax cuts that are driving the economy?

Here’s a hilarious video of House Republicans asking if they can exempt American Samoa from the bill for federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. Barney Frank throws a complete hissy fit. Sometimes being the minority can be fun. The Dem’s are saying that Frank kicked the Republicans around. Yeah, sure.

You be the judge:
