Duke lacrosse wins ACC championship

Posted by mesablue on April 30, 2007

The Duke lacrosse team returned in style.

Duke downs UVA for ACC lax crown

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Matt Danowski and his fellow seniors had helped Duke win 40 games in their careers and reach the NCAA championship game in 2005.
This year, they can add another impressive — and more significant — accomplishment to their resumes.

Danowski and Zack Greer each scored three goals Sunday and the Duke lacrosse program continued its triumphant return by beating Virginia 12-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship.

Danowski was the tournament’s most valuable player for the top-seeded Blue Devils (13-2), who won their fourth title and first since 2002.

It’s the latest on-field highlight for the Blue Devils in the road back from a rape scandal that led to charges against three former teammates — who were ultimately exonerated — and the cancellation of much of last season. Duke has won eight straight games heading into next weekend’s regular-season finale against Air Force, followed by a trip to the NCAA tournament in hopes of winning the title that eluded the Blue Devils in ’05.

“For us as seniors, we talked about leaving a legacy here,” said Danowski, honored as the ACC player of the year earlier this week. “It’s another testament to the character of the guys on this team and the way we’ve stuck (together) throughout this whole thing, kept our noses clean and just kept going and stayed with it.

“Today’s one of those payoffs. But you can’t fall back on that. It’s not the end-all, be-all for us.”

Good for them.

Sunday Morning Cartoon.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 30, 2007

I had it all written, then I deleted it.  Theres some stuff going on personal like that is interfering with my promise.  I’m sorry, it took so long.

Anyways,

When I was in kindergarten, I don’t know if all states have it, it’s a prelude to 1st grade, it acclimates children to the basic disciplines necessary for gradeschool.  At the time I went (I think it changed later) we only went to kindergarten for half a day.  and that half of the day alternated at the semester break.  So if you went to the afternoon portion of kindergarten during the first semester, you went to kindergarten for the morning portion in the second.

I attended kindergarten in the second half when I was a child, so I went to day care at about 9 o’clock or so, when my mother went to work, rather than rushing off to school at 8 o’clock.

at 7:30am on one of the local superstations (actually, at the time I think it was fox’s toe in on channel 32) “Battle of the planets”/”G-Force” was on.  I fell in love with that show.  I had to be up at that time, because I had a big brother, we both had to wake up at the same time, thats just how it is.

Anyways, I fell in love with “Battle of the planets”/”G-Force” and when the semester changed, and I had to be at school at 8, rather than 12:30 I think it was, I would cry, I admit it, I would cry, trying to get my parents to let me be late for school so I could watch the rest of battle of the planets.

My brother was old enough to walk to school, so he wasn’t there at the time, but I was still small (freshly 5 I think) and I Wanted to watch my EFFING BATTLE OF THE PLANETS!!!!!!!!!

But I had to go to kindergarten, my parents were fascists.

Shoutout: to forged who remembered BotP/GF.

watching it now, I don’t know why I loved it, but I did.

WOW!

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 27, 2007

I actually check this blog everyday (I’m a baseball fan) and sometimes I read it, he’s a bit verbose(imagine Ace writing an advance review of “Dragonslayer” after a special D&D blogger only preview of the movie sort of verbose) but it took ALLAH (CURSED ALLAH ALWAYS WINS!) to point it out to me today.

Anyways, Curt Schilling is a ballsy, honest and decent man.

I won’t belittle the night or the event because on a personal and a team level it was an incredible experience. I never took sole credit nor deserved it for us winning that game, or the series. Without Marks home run or Bronson and Keith doing what they did out of the pen we don’t win that game. Without Derek dealing in game seven, Johnny going deep twice, David’s home run and a host of other people we don’t win the series. What came out of that series from a public perception standpoint was not how we all felt. Was I proud of what I did? Absolutely, but I also never thought for a second that was the sole reason we won.

He praised his team above himself, he acknoweledged many of the accomplishments of his fellow players, and he is one of the great pitchers of all time, no selfishness no ego, only a desire to set the record straight.

Curt Schilling is a good man, I’m impressed, If I didn’t think the AL East was stacked against pretty much everyone because of the silly conflict between the Red Sox and the Yankee’s I might actually be a fan of the Red Sox just cuz this post was impressive.  Not as a pitcher, but as a person.

Hugo, you sly boy

Posted by mesablue on April 27, 2007

He’s been holding out on us.

There may yet be hope for Venezuela.

Milka (heh) Duno passed her IRL driving test today. She has five masters degrees and is 35 years old, which puts her right on the edge of my ‘will not date anyone under 35’ window. She has had success at the 24 hours of Daytona (2nd) and has won a couple of Grand Am races. She’s pretty late to the racing game, which makes it all that much sexier.

I’m more than willing to volunteer my efforts in USA/Venezuelan relations.

IRL’s Duno ups degree of difficulty for everyone

Update: Check out her web site for more Milka goodness.

I never knew how to say it.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 25, 2007

Captains Quarters has the top 5 harry reid myths, but this summary pretty much explained why I think the democratic congress is completely retarded and out of line.

MYTH #2:
General Petraeus Does Not Know What Is Happening In Iraq

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): “I Don’t Believe Him.” Q: “…General Petraeus is going to come to the Hill and make it clear to you that there is progress going on in Iraq, that the so-called surge is working. Will you believe him when he says that?” SEN. REID (D-NV): “No, I don’t believe him, because it’s not happening. All you have to do is look at the facts.” (CNN’s “The Situation Room,” 04/23/07)

FACT:

David H. Petraeus:
Four-Star General, Commander, Multinational Forces-Iraq

Harry Reid:
Senator Who Doesn’t Listen To Commanders of Military Forces

Now, let me qualify this.  I’m not one of those righty’s that is all up on abortion, thinking there should be a gun in every house (there isn’t one in mine, and holding a gun was my job at one time) I don’t believe in the bucchanaan isolationism that Pat loves to use as a rationale for his hatred of this war.  I think that “pledge of allegiance” decision was made in good faith, I think that roy moore should have been removed from office.

But I also think that congress should get the hell out of the face of people who do the dirty work while these self centered bastards are willing to sell their lives for votes, especially considering that the dems have 9/10 odds that every dead servicemember is republican, or there abouts (actually it’s just over 4/5, but you know hyperbole is supposed to work) and I DO believe that the dem’s feel so safe that they can temporarily damage this nation in order to gain political control.

That said, I’m from a democrat region, I think I know 1 republican that I’m not related to who I occassionaly interact with, and he is exclusive on abortion.  Democrats are people, I don’t hate democrats, in fact I like them, seeing as how I don’t have a choice, and even if I did, I would still like most of the democrats that I know and that I like.

However, I think those democrats are like that 1, “one issue” republican.  They are 1 issue, and don’t understand the broader political and national requirements of policy.  It is a shame, and it should be repaired.  We don’t need paris hilton saying “vote or die” (she didn’t vote, why isn’t she dead?) or Christina Aguillera saying “we are making a movement, we are making a movement” (really christina? you should read a bit more) and we need politicians to take the position of scientists (Gore) just as much as we need scientists to take the position of politicians (sagan)

My point is that these people are wrong.  Not because they are disinterested in America, or what is best about America, rather, they are indifferent of those who know.

Christina loves russel simmons, he’s the author of her politics.

Paris Loves Puff daddy (absentee ballot, mailed from NY, paris didn’t vote) for her politics.

Laurie David thinks gore is a scientist, even though he is a politician.

Angelina Jolie thinks that she brings food to Africa, when actually it’s the wage slave farmer.

And Worst of all?  Harry Reid thinks he’s more informed about the matters of war than a general, not just A General, but The General in charge of theater operations.

See, the left right now isn’t offering a different plan of action to the method of engaging in the war (that happened in WWII BTW, I understand that Market Garden was opposed by many at the time, but once they realized they were in the minority they backed down, not to mention the use of the navy and island hopping campaign offered by nimitz, rather than the 1 million man invasion of formosa as a central base was HATED by many especially by macarthur) but rather going to an extreme of conflict.

Admit it left, the right knows it.  America wins, or America loses.  Define YOUR victory, and your loss.  We’ve defined ours.  The thing is that on the “right” since I guess I’m a member of the right, us “pro-abortion” “pro-gay marriage” in fact “pro-polygamy” “pro-evolution” “anti-creation”(at least as it’s depicted) “atheist” “pro-immigration” “environmentaly conscious” rightists are clearly empty headed douchebags who follow only Darth Rove’s dictum.

America can fix it’s own problems within ourselves, if we let the people do so.  Harry wants the world to fix our problems, and then blame the world for our failures.  I disagree.  I’ve lived in this nation, I served this nation, and I love this nation.  I’ve resided briefly in others, and in those 8 nations as briefly as I knew them I can say this, “THIS, America, is the greatest nation I have ever seen”  and all 8 of those nations were western.

Okay the rails are breaking and this is mesa’s place.  I’m done.

Olby is Insane.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 25, 2007

First Giulliani is un-American.  I thought it was Republicans who said that, though in general they don’t.  He goes on to blame Bush through implication for September 11th, as well as blaming, once again through implication, Giuliani for September 11th.

He then describes how Iraq is the most ruinous war in the history of our country, puts on his psychiatrist cap and diagnoses the Vice President as delusional, and then compares Giuliani to Robespierre (which, in context should be treated as a compliment in my opinion.) as well as McCarthy(much less a compliment in context.)

I will include a perma in a few when olbywatch updates. (if you don’t read it, do so, but don’t eat less than half an hour before you do so, you might get cramps and drown)

Really, this is a “journalist” commenting in the most hyperbolic manor about things he clearly knows nothing about just so he can manipulate the balnce to favor whichever side it is that he’s on.

Update: Here’s the perma at olbywatch, ain’t updated with tonights analysis yet.

Update:  I criticized olby for using “un-American” and here is James Inhoffe who called a sitting Senator (reid) un-American, or rather having done something that is un-American.  Now, I think that Inhoffe was a bit lazy in the description, but at least he validated his point of view (one I don’t necessarily disagree with, though I would rather he said un-patriotic, or opportunistic, rather than un-American.  I think reid loves America, but I think he is willing to punch his mother in the face if he can stay in control of the Senate.  That doesn’t mean he hates his mother, it’s just that he knows his mother’s face will heal while he’s the Senate Majority Leader)

Update: The perma is updated with all of johnny dollars commentary, and analysis.

Nature

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 25, 2007

Right now the rain is Pouring down, really it’s difficult for any sound to be heard over the falling rain without shutting all the doors and boarding all the windows, without turning volumes of the television or radio up to unreasonable levels.

I LOVE rainy days, even here, the air is so fresh, and so dense, it’s a full expression of nature, and it gives even the shittiest environment an ideal of the fundamentaly pleasent nature of the world (ask mesa, he’s been to most of the places I’ve been, but most important he has been here, my hometown has a bad habit of smelling like shit, though, not as bad as it used to)

When the rain falls?  It isn’t mans fault, the flowers don’t die, and the sky doesn’t fall.

When it rains, here, you don’t have to mow your lawn, or water your flowers, or wait for your roofing to split.

But thats not all,  You also don’t have to worry about a draught, drought (spelling?) LA is a desert by gods creation, don’t give me global warming statistics while you lavish yourself in a desert built upon the creations of man.

The midwest is gods country, because this is where man should live.  Fresh water, natural irrigation and fertile soil, and these extra-ordinary evenings when as you close your eyes you can hear the pitter patter of raindrops, and know that each drop will sustain the BEST EFFING MUNICIPAL WATER ON THE PLANET!!!

I’ve been to many places in the world, best water?  RIGHT EFFING HERE!

Wheres my ball of yarn?

I deleted a post.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 25, 2007

Of course it was one I made.  I only mention it cuz it was very long, and I didn’t care to save it, and there were too many flaws (this time none of them my fault) so I whiped it out rather than leaving it on the site.   No reason to muddy the boss/meany mesa’s site with a lot of broken links, embeds and stuff like that.

I appologize to anyone who thought they saw something only to find it gone later, as well as to the boss/mesa the meany.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 24, 2007

In her last post “I’m done” Feisty is closing the legs of her blog.

Which is fitting, seeing as how that is pretty much how she left all of her previous contracts of employment.

Feisty should stay active and sign on to a group somewhere so we can all share in her wisdom.

Edit: I edited in a joke to replace a cliche’

Edit: OH! CRAP!!! ummm, also, she’s not dead!  She’s just not blogging.

I don’t know how I feel about this.

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 24, 2007

Rosie’s gone, via allah/hotair via tmz (tmz tends to be pretty reliable, every tip for them that I see being repeated tends to work out well) but my concern is. . .

I think that we benefit when these complete retards are allowed to share their opinions about stuff they know nothing about, while they are lecturing us about that very stuff, and judging us about it.  I think we could take great advantage of people who are so stupid, and so wrong, that we can feed them a question and actualy proffit by having at least one definitive negative.

 Example:

Me:So, Rosie I was thinking about getting married but I’m not sure, she’s great, she’s wealthy, talented, loves me is great in bed, but theres just something that makes me wonder, what should I do?

Rosie: “giver her a chance.”

Result: I dump her right then and there.

that is usefull info to have, and only people as profoundly stupid as rosie can offer it.

Admit it,

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 24, 2007

You were waiting for me to find it.

Anyways, here is the “domestic” I think that means English/UK trailer for HP: TOotP, weren’t you?

Thats not the best res, but it does the job, you can find links to better res trailers at the leaky cauldron in their updates.  If you need to see it now, just use the embed (also brought to you by the leaky cauldron) cuz yahoo is overloaded right now.

My opinion, looks like all of the trailers for the SW ep1-3 movies, and they sucked, so I don’t know if it is good that magic is finaly starting to look like magic, or if it is bad that magic looks like SW ep’s 1-3.

Update:  Saw the high res versions, it’s flogging HYPE!  The kids might act like crap, but the action is hype.

When moonbats attack #7998

Posted by mesablue on April 24, 2007

You gotta love a moonbat on the rampage. But, what happens when you mix moonbats, illegal aliens and a typically liberal college campus in Michigan (no, not that one)?

Much mayhem and hilarity are sure to follow.

Chris Simcox, co-founder of The Minuteman Project, spoke at Michigan State University on April 19, 2007 — or rather, he tried to speak. As is usually the case when moonbat morons don’t agree with something — they must try to quash it. The whole free speech for me but not for thee mentality that we find so endearing in the modern moonbat.

Please enjoy this video of the event, included are many scenes of hypocrisy, screaming tantrums and of course, Absolute Moral Authority. Particularly touching is the moment when one moonbat maiden explains to the policemen escorting her out that they’d stop trying to deny the free speech of the speaker if he would just “stop speaking”. Priceless.

The patience of the police in this video is admirable. I would have tazered a few of these goofballs.

The video is brought to you by the MSU YAF’ers.

More video from The State News with the moonbat explaining Absolute Moral Authority, my favorite moment which makes it all so worthwhile — here.

Tears, really.

Why do I do this to myself?

Posted by Wickedpinto on April 24, 2007

Okay, well, I’m digging around for a link to the new “Harry Potter: and The Order of the Phoenix” trailer, so I could embed it. Do I know why, no, and I’m not really a fan I’m a self hating addict who enjoys the conversations others have in between the books and movies, more than I enjoy the books or movies, (though I must admit I’ve listened to all the audiobook several times.)

Anyways, I’m looking and looking, and all I’m finding is the international trailer that is available at the Official HP Movie Website (res is good.) So I start looking for something interesting and I found this article at the The Baltimore Sun, and I’m thankful:

Well, I know why. I got sucked into this vortex years ago. (Handmade Slytherin House scarf? Naturally. Long black coat that billows in a satisfyingly Snape-like manner? Check. Husband who dressed up as Snape for Halloween, complete with $258 frock coat? Yeah, my fault.)

Thank you Jamie Smith Hopkins, you gave me proof that I am NOT! a “huge fan” of Harry Potter, in fact I think you proved that I’m barely even a fan.
